Like many organisations, Environment Canterbury has a genuine desire to provide its staff with first-rate training. Ecan knows that the many benefits of well-trained staff include increased efficiency, improved career satisfaction, reduced turnover, and greater consistency.
In order to achieve those benefits, though, the training has to fit the needs of the organisation. What do staff need to know to be effective in their jobs? What are the most critical training needs for different groups of staff and how do they vary? What is the climate and culture of the organisation within which the training is to be delivered?
To answer those questions, Ecan brought Synapsys in to perform a Training Needs Analysis.
Over a span of several weeks, we conducted high-level interviews with people responsible for training in individual content areas, focus groups with representatives of each division of the organisation, and reviews of training documents. We then thoroughly analysed that data to produce a report with the following information:
- What training does Ecan currently provide?
- What are their training needs?
- How and in what order should additional training be implemented?
This information was broken down by the different areas within Ecan as well as by the different content areas.
The document we created will now be used as the foundation for implementing a training framework that takes into account the broader needs and long-term strategy of Environment Canterbury. We are looking forward to continuing to work with them towards that goal.
