Maximising generative AI in organisations

After the initial excitement of generative AI, organisations are now looking at the challenge of translating potential into tangible value. Many have learned that capturing gen AI’s advantages requires not only technology tools but also organisational capability development.

As with any new technology, value is only realised when it’s applied to solve real people and process challenges. Capturing meeting notes and generating source documents are daily practices for most organisations. Realising more transformative, wider benefits however requires strategic clarity.

This article from McKinsey Digital proposes that organisations need to ‘re-wire’ their businesses. It outlines six areas that can help organisations maximise the benefits of generative AI:

  • Identify where gen AI copilots can provide a competitive advantage
  • Upskill your current talent, ensuring clarity on the gen AI-specific skills that teams need to prioritise
  • Centralise competencies with a dedicated team to establish and maintain standards and protocols that support scaling
  • Design a scalable technology architecture—this doesn’t necessarily mean building anew, but reusing existing technology
  • Focus on ensuring data quality, with a strong emphasis on unstructured data, to provide the fuel needed to improve model accuracy and effectiveness
  • Build trust and reusability to drive adoption and scale
