Phil recently attended the NZATD Digital Learning Showcase, an event highlighting the innovative work taking place across the digital learning ecosystem.
Across the presentations, Phil identified three key themes:
1. From learning to capability
There is a shifting focus from learning to capability, both within and across projects. The emphasis is increasingly on the behavioural shift and the capability that people develop, rather than the learning process itself.
The next evolution is already emerging – moving from a focus on role-specific behaviours towards organisational skilling as a strategy for keeping up with the pace of change.
2. From storytelling to learning in real life
There is also a shift from storytelling and describing real-life situations to learning happening in real life.
Both approaches are about application, but AI and data analysis are creating opportunities to build capability directly in and through the job, rather than relying on parallel training initiatives that use real-life scenarios and storytelling.
3. From AI as a tool to AI embedded in the workplace
AI is currently being used as an ancillary tool to help lead learning. The next shift is towards AI being embedded within processes and systems as a natural part of the way organisations operate.
It will be fascinating to see where these developments have reached in another year’s time. One thing is certain – there will be a huge amount of change happening.
A big thank you to NZATD for the Digital Learning Showcase and for creating an opportunity to share ideas, explore emerging trends and see such an innovative ecosystem thriving.
